MST has been one of the British marine industry’s success stories since its inception in 2002. MST concentrated on serving the commercial market, using state of the art 3D CAD engineering software and a uniquely flexible business model to design and supply a wide variety of RIBs.
MST recently moved to its new larger manufacturing facility and launched its new web site www.mstltd.co.uk and anticipates increasing its turnover to over £9million in 2009. Its international client list of coastguard, water police, fishery protection, sea rescue, research, environment agency, airport and naval end-users is impressive. MST currently has active agents in Europe, the Middle East, the Far East, and the Pacific.

MST’s principal buyers are ‘business (or National Authority) to business’ – and Seawork has contributed to expanding this network. Philip Hilbert, MST’s Commercial Director commented, “ With a significant contract in place from a European military organisation for MST, we are delighted to announce orders for fellow Seawork exhibitors today. The order is significant and we anticipate placing further orders with more suppliers in the near future.”
Orders MST has placed as a result are with Volvo Penta for 96 engines (comprising 62 x Volvo D6-370DP stern drives and 34 x Volvo D6-4351IB to drive waterjets) and with Hamilton Jet UK for 34 x Hamilton Jet HJ274 water jets. These substantial orders show how MST’s successes are providing major benefits for marine trade suppliers at a time when areas of the marine market are suffering in the world wide economic downturn.
Tony Jones from Hamilton Jet UK commented, “This contract follows a successful co-operation between Hamilton Jet UK and MST over a period approaching 2 years and with in excess of 3000 of the contract specified HJ 274 waterjets delivered worldwide, we are delighted yet again to be supplying Hamilton Waterjets units to MST for such a prestigious military contract.”
Tony Ward of Volvo Penta UK says; “Volvo Penta is extremely proud to be selected to supply MST with 96 marine diesel engines for a prestigious European military contract. Volvo Penta power outputs range from 100-750hp, and we will be delivering the D6 model; a 5.5litre in line 6 cylinder engine rated from 330-435hp, with both stern drive and waterjet options. The engine is unique in its power range, as it is designed and built entirely as a marine engine for high-speed marine leisure and commercial craft. A combined electronic common rail injection system and Volvo Penta-engineered controls provides a reliable, fully integrated package. Volvo Penta’s green commitment ensures the engine meets not only the IMO regulations but the higher tier II standards. The D6 engines we will be delivering for this contract have been specifically adapted to meet the need of the end user, including the requirement for SOLAS approved equipment.”
